My furniture designs are unique and say something new about structure, form or even function. These are just a few examples of many designs (Copyright Jeremy Broun) : Pyramid Drinks Cabinet, High Backed Rocker, Zigzag Table, Universal Clock, Ambience low energy Lamp, Roman Baths bench, Elm Rocker. Visit www.woodesigner.com to see more of my designs including my award winning Digital touchscreen jukebox.
In the history of woodworking the forms may have changed but often the same age old Methods of jointing are still used such as mortice and tenoms and traditional dovetails.
I have experimented with wood over many years and here are a few of my innovative joints :
A tiny carcase corner joint that combines a lap dovetail with a through dovetail. Try making it. Students at the Furniture College in Ireland did !
This plywood carcase joint exploits the magic of the router whilst featuring the laminated structure of shuttering plywood. The sold wood contrasting inserts are routed in and the carcase side and top is actually spaced by a tiny gap.
The centre joint of my Zigzag table (featured at top of page and first designed in 1979) is a unique zigzag joint re-inforced internally with a slotted tongue.
Innovation in structure is demonstrated in my Millennium Garden room. The covered area is spruce clad with interior ash panelling. The floor is stain varnished and the structure includes integral spotlights and power points. The roof is made of plywood with a shingle covering (sponsored by Ruberoid) and the coloured protective coating by Sadolin.
